Organic matter is readily available in retail outlets in bags or bulk. Look for a quality brand that is certified.

Organic matter for the garden can come from a range of sources:

• Compost is recycled garden and household waste that has broken down.
• Manures vary in nutrient levels and care must be taken not to over use them.
• Worm farm residues are the castings from worm farms.
• Bagged soil improver is generally a blend of organic materials.
• Leaf litter and other garden waste can be applied and allowed to decompose.
