Compost

There are many different composting processes from complicated gizmos to a pile left rotting in the corner of a garden. Some people are now simply spreading raw materials on the ground and encouraging a natural build up of decomposing organisms. Each technique has its own requirements.

Composting is one way of turning organic waste into useful soil conditioner. Food scraps, garden pruning's, lawn mower clippings, shredded paper and so on can all be used to make compost. Composting can take as little as 2 weeks or up to 2 years depending on the technique used. However it is important to note that when using compost in the garden it should always be dug in or covered with mulch in order to protect the millions of beneficial organisms from our harsh sunlight.
